Greater Chenango Aquatics Team (GCAT)
I've been a member of GCAT since 2013. GCAT is a little bit more formal than the YMCA Dolphins. It is a part of US Swimming. So, it gives me a chance to experience the formality of swimming in nationally sanctioned events. Frequently, we will swim in a 50 meter pool which is not exactly my favorite. However, I better get used to it! GCAT is part of Adirondack Swimming.
The schedule for the three teams that I swim with is great. It begins with Varsity in August which lasts for 12 weeks. Then comes Dolphins which begins in October and runs through March which is when the State competition takes place. There is an overlap between the Varsity and Dolphins seasons. When that happens, I train with Varsity. However, I also swim at Dolphin meets which take place on Saturdays. GCAT begins in April and ends at late in July. So, I pretty much swim all year long.
Beginning in 2015 GCAT stopped participating in formal meets. However, the group stayed together to train over the summer, both for general conditioning as well as to prepare for the coming high school varsity season. As of 2019, it appears that GCAT will be officially competing again. Since I also compete for the FSM, I have to find out if there is a conflict if I compete as a member of US Swimming with GCAT.
